the Barn Owl EP (2006)

Before Nonreturner was Nonreturner they were a little three piece called Barn Owl. The Barn Owl EP fits like an old pair of jeans you can’t quite seem to let go of. You put on the worn, holey, and faded pants and nostalgia echoes through you. Barn Owl feels familiar and comfortable but also stands as an ominous warning of the changes to come. It features early versions of many songs that would later be more fully actualized on The Nonreturner.
Without a bass and many of the synth embellishments one would usually hear on a Nonreturner album, Barn Owl’s sounds are limited to two guitars, drums and occasional vocal graces. Rather than being submerged underwater, The Barn Owl EP dwells on the land. It feels like a quiet jam in a childhood bedroom after a few clandestine bong hits.
For this recording, Nonreturner is Logan Epps, Michael Hopkins, and Zach Biri
