Black Block Faxes

I’ve been using feedburner since the inception of this site to take some of the load off of our servers when RSS/Atom aggregators hit my site up.  In December, we switched servers, and this place (as well as nonreturner.com and yardsandgods.com) were down for a while.  When it all went back up, I had to start over, and I guess I forgot to check where feedburner was looking for RSS until just now, because apparently anyone who subscribes to this site has missed every post since it’s been back up.

If you’re someone who had subscribed and thought this place was totally dead, I apologize.  Feel free to actually visit Black Block Faxes and catch up.  I sincerely hope this post shows up in your RSS reader.

I just found these pictures of me and Michael (H., guitarist in Nonreturner) from like the 80’s. I’m on the far left, and he’s in the middle.  The left side of these pictures is what it would look like if half of our band stepped in a sci-fi age reversal machine.  Superimpose a telecaster in front of me and an epiphone in front of Michael, imagine him with glasses, and BAM it’s a Nonreturner “preunion” show in a sandbox.  Some serious LOST shit…

That’s my back yard, and where that sandbox was is now a back porch.  Those are little plastic dinosaurs in the sand, and I remember usually when we had the skeleton dinosaurs in the pits we’d get some water and fill the pits in.

Pretty sure there were cat turds in that sandbox.

All apologies for the downtime. I’ve returned bearing good but slightly dated news:

I’m now a co-conspirator in a Y&G related project called ‘Taint Dangerous. It’s a website dedicated to taint related haiku. I’ll probably end up updating that more than this because churning out taint poetry takes less time and effort than churning out recordings, though I do have some things in the works in that arena.

Wild Lights

This is a song I’ve been kicking around for a little over a month.  I’ve been sort of a wreck since just before Christmas and I haven’t felt much like creating anything…  I decided last night to just start something even if I didn’t think I could finish it, but things have a funny way of coming together.

I get this funny feeling that I sound like Beth Orton singing this.

Doubleplus bonus points if you can figure out what I’m singing in a very high pitched voice throughout the entire second half of the song.

Ted’s gone and put up the bones of the design for yardsandgods.com, and I was so inspired that I reworked nonreturner.com as well.  Now it’s (I think) a little more compatible and a little more readable.  I’m sort of enamored with this whole building a site around Wordpress business.

I’m almost finished putting this site back together, though past posts are lost forever.  No worries, there was nothing particularly interesting said, and all of the audio I posted can still be found in the archives in the links on the right.

Right now we’re also trying to get yardsandgods.com version 3.0 off the ground with the help of Ptarmigan and web developer Ted Carstensen.  In the meantime, there’s a silly looking placeholder.  If I have the time and gumption, I’ll probably throw together a temporary thing.

I apologize to anyone subscribed to my RSS if the back and forth installing/uninstalling wordpress that’s been going on for the past week has filled your reader with lots of the “Hello World!” posts that fresh installs have initially.  I can imagine that it must have been pretty obnoxious.

Transferring the database backup was a total failure.  Luckily I have all the archives and mix tapes page html backed up.  I’ll be dumping that stuff back up here once I get all of the files re-uploaded.
